Weekly Horse Breed!
HAPPY Late MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm afraid I don't have a mother's day post for y'all, sadly. Only a horse *smacks forehead*
Actually, this was supposed to be posted on Sunday, but for some reason, when I posted it, it didn't come through in my blog! ARG!
You know how I used to have the "Horse Breed of the Day?" Well, I've decided to do those again! However, they will be weekly when I have nothing planned, rather than everyday *smile*

To start off, we'll be going through coldbloods.
Therefore, today's horse breed iiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssss *grimacing as I hiss like a snake* (and I'm still going, going......) *lungs ache* *face turns red* *veins bulge in neck*
the ITALIAN HEAVY DRAFT! *deep breath*
The Italian Heavy draft is a stocky-yet-not-too-stocky (if that makes sense.....) coldblood that, hence the name, comes from Italy. They range from 14.2 to 16 hands high and come in these colors: chestnut, flaxen, liver chestnut, sorrel, flaxen sorrel, and liver sorrel, bay, blue roan, red roan, and strawberry roan.
The history of the Italian Heavy Draft:
The breeds that started this horse are local native stock, Arabian, Hackney, both horse and pony, Thoroughbred, Brabant drafts and French heavy drafts, and Postier-Breton horses. By crossing the Brabants with local native stock, they got a heavy breed that seemed slow and lazy, and much too big. So they crossed them with the Postier-Bretons and all the lighter breeds listed, resulting in a docile, heavy breed that wasn't so slow.
The uses of these horses today are for agriculture, but mostly for meat.
The conformation of this breed:
tiny, well-pricked ears; a muscular, stout body; strong legs; flat, boxy feet; deep shoulders; a rather straight, slightly Roman-nosed face; and thick necks. Their tails are usually short by nature, not terribly long at all, and high-set. The Italian Heavy Draft's nostrils are open and readily flared.
Information I've collected from The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Horse Breeds by Susan McBane, Horses by DK, and The Horse Encyclopedia by DK.
Hope you've enjoyed learning about our first coldblood we've met, the Italian Heavy Draft!
Now, before I close off, I need you to look at the colors this horse can come in:
Either sorrel, flaxen sorrel, or liver sorrel
Either chestnut, flaxen, or liver chestnut
Bay
Either red roan, blue roan, or strawberry roan
Scroll through THIS list to find each color if you don't know what they look like or look the color up. Then vote :D

OK, I need each of you to comment a vote in the comment section, picking the color you want me to do the Weekly Horse Color post on (and be specific. If you want flaxen sorrel, then say "flaxen sorrel" instead of just "sorrel." That goes for all colors (not "roan" but "strawberry roan.")). Whichever color has the most votes I will do for the Weekly Horse Color post. This voting will repeat itself every time I do a Weekly Horse Breed post.

I like horse posts. We are fried chicken for Mother's day. Nothing really interesting though.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoy them! Fried chicken is good. Yeah, we didn't do much on mother's day either :D
DeleteHey, y'all,
ReplyDeleteJust remembered I needed to say something: if no horse color is voted for more than once, I'll have to pick a random color that was only voted for once from one of the comments.
Just lettin' y'all know!
~Izzy~
My vote is liver chestnut!
