Hero's Victory
Hey folks!
I just wanted to share something like has lightened my days. For the past 5 months, I’ve been working on what I hope will become my debut novel. As of now, it’s under the name Hero’s Victory.
The book is a contemporary novel about a girl named Melissa Lewis, called Lissa for short. The book begins with her in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but she moves to Lexington, Kentucky after her parent’s divorce, which sends her into grief. She loses her trust in God - or maybe I should just say it becomes wobbly? - so the book is about her life struggles with God, and with the beautiful bay Thoroughbred colt that falls into her hands under not-so-very-happy circumstances. The colt (a young stallion under the age of 5) is named Heartbreaker, son of the infamous A.P. Indy.
I found the idea of this book through a daydream I created about a chestnut Thoroughbred colt named Heartbreaker who was related to Secretariat, the 1973 Triple Crown winner (Secretariat is my favorite racehorse, Man o’ War holding second). Based on that idea, Heartbreaker was born, a two-year-old abused racehorse with a reddish-brown coat and a black mane and tail. Of course, if I was going to write a story about him, I needed a main character. Thus, brown-haired, hazel-eyed Melissa Lewis became a “reality.”
I was aiming for at least 45,000 words. I am so elated to say this:
On November 25, 2019, at 1:25 PM, I finished Hero’s Victory at 69,000 words!!!!! WHOOP WHOOP!! Now I am in the process of editing it, and boooyyyyy I have a lot of work to do XD I have facts to correct and racehorse stuff to perfect and typos to edit and people and animals to change . . . you get the point LOL
Now I’ve started pondering for the second book of the Horse Crazy Chronicles series. Already I’ve got the horse and girl figured out: chestnut Thoroughbred Tazmanian Devil who has a temper to match his lava-red coat, and Jane Myers, a shy but daring girl who wants to make Taz into a champion.
Anyway, I just wanted to share with y’all my happy news. Be on the lookout for Hero’s Victory through 2020!
BTW, happy belated Thanksgiving, y’all! XD <3 <3 What did you guys do for the Thanksgiving holiday? Tell me in the comments below!
Love,
~Izzy~

Your book sounds very interesting! I'm glad you got a chance to post. I miss your posts. :-) My uncle came down on Tuesday (11-26) and is staying till tomorrow. My cousin is coming over today, along with a great aunt and uncle.
ReplyDeleteWow! Congrats on finishing your book. :D I wish I could say I only have editing left to go, but I don't. Not even close. ;-) I love A.P. Indy too. :-) Actually, don't mean to brag or anything, but my grandparents bought a horse this year that is the granddaughter of A.P. Indy! Isn't that cool? BTW, will we be able to buy your book once it's published? I would love to read it! :-)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Here's a name of a website I think you might enjoy: www.BloodHorse.com (The name is kind of weird, but the site covers all sorts of Thoroughbred racing topics. I go on it every day. :-)
