Weekly Horse Breed
Yo everybody!
Yeah, still workin' on those pictures *winces*
Anyway, today we're doing the heart-stopping, gorgeous AKHAL-TEKE!
How do you say that? you ask. Ah-kahl Teh-kay.
Let's jump right into it.
Akhal-Tekes are said to be one of the oldest horse breeds in the world. No one knows really what their ancestry and blood is. All we know is they come from Turkmenistan, and probably is related to the Turkmene horse.
Akhal-Tekes can be 14.1 to 17 hands high, and come in a brilliant amount of colors: dun, bay, copper bay, light bay, golden bay, mahogany bay, blood bay, sorrel, chestnut, black (with a blue or purple sheen), gray, claybank, red dun, buckskin, palomino, grulla, cream, cremello, perlino, and silver. Lots of times all these colors have a golden or metallic sheen.
Akhal-Tekes have very good - no, great - endurance and stamina. Once, a herd of Akhal-Tekes completed a 2,565 mile trek in 84 days with little water and food! They are used for endurance riding, dressage, racing, and jumping. Their temperment, though, is wild! Stubborn, high-strung, even vicious! Some say they are calm; but that depends on the horse. Akhal-Tekes are very alert.
The Conformation of an Akhal Teke: they have a long, refined head which is either straight or slightly concave; large, expressive eyes; large nostrils; long ears that are mobile; a long, thin neck; high, pronounced withers; usually a sparse mane and tail; a long, straight back; long legs; hard feet; a narrow ribcage; and a deep, narrow chest.
Overall, this is a very elongated horse!
Of all horses to buy, an Akhal-Teke should be low on your list. Be careful around these horses; only the best-of-best horsemen should handle them.
Now to vote on the colors I mentioned!
Bay, copper bay, light bay, golden bay, mahogany bay, blood bay
Sorrel, chestnut
Black
Gray, silver
Claybank
Buckskin, dun, red dun, grulla
Cream, cremello, perlino, palomino
Love,
Izzy
