My New Horse!

I got a horse, y'all!

Her name is Magic Daisy. She's my new best friend, and she's amazing. I got her almost three weeks ago. She is a sweet, stubborn, alert, intelligent, and did-I-mention-stubborn sweetie-pie. I love her a lot. On Thursday we went on a trail ride with my friend Anya and her Quarab, Philo. We were headed back to the barn when it felt like Daisy got the bit in her teeth (she didn't tho) and took off for the barn, at a brisk trot almost as fast as her canter!

I had to turn her in really tight circles to get her to stop and Anya had to run Philo in front of Daisy so the mare would stop.

Here is some information about Magic Daisy:

1. She was bred, raised, and trained at a cattle ranch in Washington State. We think the ranch slightly mishandled her when she was a youngster. We also think she has had a few babies. We don't know her registry, but I'm guessing she's an AQHA, if she is registered.
2. She is a big, 15 (or 15.2) hand high Quarter Horse. Her belly is round, not fat, but she is "rolly-polly."
3. She is a gray.
4. She is 23 years old.
5. She defenitly has personality. She's really stubborn, and frisky, but that makes her curious, silly, and soooo sweet. When I ask her to do something she doesn't want to do, she gets this defiant look in her eye and in her face. Literally. It makes me giggle.

Here are some pictures of me and Daisy:

Here we are the day she came to where I board her

Cuddles!

Hahahahahaha, sorry, she was making weird noises and yawning *giggles*

Isn't she pretty?

Now I'll be doing a "Horse Breed" that I've already done, but refreshing it. In honor of Magic Daisy, I'll be doing the Quarter Horse!

The Quarter Horse
Probably the most popular breed in America, the Quarter Horse is said to "turn on a dime and toss you back nine cents change," and that means while galloping breakneck. They are very beautiful horses and it has excellent cow sense. It is a natural show jumper and dressage horse, oddly, and is used for racing as well. On ranches, the Quarter Horse is definitely the main horse you will find.

Quarter Horses can come in most any color, more uncommon are broken colors. Some people say QH can't be pinto, others say they can. Quarter Horses are usually 14.3 to 16 hands high.

Quarter Horses are typically the fastest horses, faster than Thoroughbreds, but only over short distances. QH can outrun Thoroughbreds in quarter mile races and and sprints easily.

History of the Quarter Horse:
In the late 1500s and early 1600s, American settles in the east acquired Spanish/Iberian and Oriental (which are Arabian and Barb) horses. By crossing them with various European blood and Thoroughbreds, they laid the foundation for the Quarter Horse. They were originally called "Quarter Pathers" because in the towns and villages they were used as quarter-mile racehorses for games and such. Soon they were being used for farm work, herding cattle, agricultural work, harness work, and saddle work.

Quarter Horses have a head that resembles Thoroughbreds and Arabian ancestry, and long necks. Their hindquarters are hugely muscled, which is one of their characteristics. Their chests are broad, and some Quarters are rather rolly-poly like Daisy and the dark chestnut Quarter Horse mare, Trufflez, in the stall over.

Love y'all!

~Izzy~

P.S. A Quarab is a Quarter Horse bred to an Arabian. They have the head, wide-set, big beautiful eyes, and sway-back of an Arabian, and the muscles and cow-sense of a Quarter Horse. Philo is a brown-and-white pinto Quarab gelding.

  1. Congrats! She is a beauty. Some people don't think animals have expressions, but my dog, cats and even goats have taught me better. They can give you a dirty look if they think you are being a dork : ) Have fun riding!

    1. Thank you, Emily! Yes, I agree completely with the animal-facial-expressions. They really do have them! Our cat, Kabuki, has the most funny expression when she gets annoyed: narrowed eyes, glower, ears back. Jack, our dog, gets this pathetic puppy-dog look whenever he gets left behind at our house when my family and I leave to go someplace. Animals are amazing! I love them so much.
